The final of a series of Mars / Pluto oppositions took place on Saturday April 26th 2025 from 5:50 pm to 6:43 pm PT. From an astrology perspective, this is one of the most challenging circumstances we face from our outer experiences to facilitate change.
Shortly after 8 pm, a 30 year old man who suffered from mental illness drove into a crowd at the Lapu Lapu Day Block Party in Vancouver BC..
The new moon in Taurus (at 12:30 pm the following day) was square (another challenging angle between planets) to this tension of polarity between Mars and Pluto. When squares and oppositions show up in our life, it is often challenging EXTERNAL circumstances that catapult us into action. Change is no longer optional, it is imminent and forces us to move in a certain direction.
A new moon in Taurus is a RESET FOR WHAT WE VALUE and HOW WE APPRECIATE our experience on earth. Mars in Leo is a strong mission to self-express, and Pluto in Aquarius can show us the dark side of social organizations. Pluto is ultimately about empowerment, but we go to the depths of the underworld of human psychology before we regain a sense of healthy personal power. The result is turning our world upside down to forcefully purge what is holding us back, and come out completely transformed, but we need to face the darkness head-on. Pluto / Mars transits are the biggest opportunity for change, but change this profound comes with A NEED TO GUT THE WHOLE system.
In contrast to squares and oppositions, when sextile and trine angles between planets occur we seize opportunities that arise because we are ready for the opportunity that presents, and somewhat in easy flow to align with the change ahead. The hindrance with this energy is that it is easy to miss an opportunity because we’re resisting transformation or don’t think we’re ready - ‘we will catch the next wave’ kind of vibe - so we continue the path of least resistance and maybe choose to do nothing for one more day.
Pluto does not give us a choice in the transformation we are taking on. When challenging aspects hit Pluto - and especially if it connects to our personal charts - like the caterpillar metamorphosis, we must go through the change. However this transit showed up in each of our lives, there is likely to be something that can no longer wait to be transformed.
Mars in Leo opposing Pluto in Aquarius, is forcing us to change the future of social structure, how we connect to each other, what we consider to be an ideal future, and release what is holding us back from a world where we help each other selflessly.
Perhaps when Pluto completes its long journey through Aquarius, we won’t see the best side of humanity emphasized at times of crisis, but THE INTENTION OF GREATER GOOD FOR ALL will be the norm, and what we PURGE could be systems which benefit few.
This event was home and deeply affected people I love, but this happens in large scales and small scales all over the world, all too often. Through conversations about astrology and what a better future could look like, I hope to be part of change for a world that has ‘heart- focused’ intention at the core of our decisions.
Pluto highlights fear, but as humans we are designed to love.
In astrology, I see patterns over and over again that suggest: the very thing we are aiming to learn / create / achieve, is what we don’t have easy access to. It is only through the struggle of trying to achieve something that we truly integrate what we seek. If we had it to start, we wouldn’t learn how to get it in a way that no one can take it away from us.
This Taurus New Moon cycle is encouraging us to reflect on what we value and align with our ideals.
This Mars / Pluto opposition peaked on Saturday between 5:50 pm to 6:43 pm PT, but the build up was occurring for the week prior and will be felt as we move into the Scorpio Full Moon on May 11th.
